Mark Eaton

Mark Eaton is the Secretary of the Rare Breeding Birds Panel.

He is responsible for their work encouraging the recording of rare breeding birds in the UK, collating such data, maintaining a secure archive, and producing annual reports. Previously he was Principal Conservation Scientist in the Monitoring section of the RSPB Centre for Conservation Science, and has decades of experience in the monitoring of wildlife – through surveys, red-listing, indicators and ‘state of’ reporting – in the UK and internationally. He has been responsible for many UK raptor surveys, conducted under the Statutory Conservation Agency and RSPB Annual Breeding Bird Scheme (SCARABBS), since the 2003 Golden Eagle survey. He is the Chair of the European Bird Census Council, and an active fieldworker and birder in his adopted home county of Northumberland.
