Cairngorms National Park Authority (CNPA)
At 4,528 sq km (or 6% of Scotland’s land mass), the Cairngorms is the UK’s largest national park. Famous for its spectacular landscapes and iconic wildlife, the National Park is home to one quarter of the UK’s rare and endangered species, and nearly half of its area is considered ‘wild land’.
The Cairngorms National Park Authority became fully operational, taking on all its statutory powers, on 1 September 2003. Since then it provides leadership for the Cairngorms National Park, tackling the big issues in the Park in a collaborative way.
CNPA provides scientific support and conservation expertise to the Scottish Raptor Monitoring Group (SRMG). Staff across the Park assist with the delivery of the Scheme on the ground, by provision of ornithological data collected through work programmes, by co-ordination of survey work as necessary, and by assisting the Scottish Raptor Monitoring Coordinator (SRMC). CNPA will continue, as resources permit, to fund and help co-ordinate national surveys of raptor species across the Cairngorms and will provide annual data to the Scheme from the Park.
